Soldiers Seize 30 Excavators From Galamseyers - Samuel Abu Jinapor

Jinapor: We'll deal with both NPP, NDC illegal miners - Asaase Radio

Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources has revealed that soldiers have seized approximately 30 excavators following the relaunch of 'Operation Halt' to combat illegal mining (galamsey).

He stated that the military would assume full responsibility for the second phase of 'Operation Halt,' which aims to mitigate and reduce illegal mining in the country.

As I speak with you, they have seized nearly 30 excavators. It has already begun. It started about two or three days ago and will last. The soldiers will stay as long as it takes. They will make a decision. They will make those decisions, not I, the minister... They will have command and control over when to go, how to go, where to go, and how to conduct their operations. The military will control everything. "We are in charge of policy, but they will handle operational implementation," he explained.

Mr. Jinapor also stated that, unlike previous military operations, which took three months, the second phase of the 'Operation Halt' exercise would be a continuous effort until the galamsey threat was eliminated.

Mr. Jinapor pledged the president's and the ministry's total and unwavering support in fighting the galamsey menace with integrity and transparency, without shielding anyone, regardless of political affiliation or social standing.
