No Soldier Was Involved In Tamale Robbery Incident

The Ghana Armed Forces has denied claims that a soldier was involved in the robbery incident that happened in Tamale, where a Toyota Camry vehicle was snatched from its owner, by robbers carrying Heckler & Koch G3 rifle and a pistol.

The bad guys were given a hot chase by the police and arrested at Buipe in the Savannah Region.

The police seized from them the guns and military uniform.

The acting Director of Public Relations, Ghana Armed Forces, Commander Andy La-Anyame, in a statement said; “The attention of the Ghana Armed Forces has been drawn to several videos and pictures on various social media platforms of the arrest of a car snatching syndicate at Buipe alleged to have attacked and snatched a car from a victim at Tamale.

In the said videos and pictures, one of the suspects is seen wearing a military camouflage uniform and has been described variously as a soldier of the Ghana Armed Forces.

We wish to state categorically that the suspect is not a soldier of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The Armed Forces is worried about the rising spate of impersonation by civilians, either wearing military uniforms or posting of fake pictures of themselves as military officers to defraud unsuspecting Ghanaians.”

The statement added that, “Ghanaians should be confident to provide information to the security agencies in order to nip this trend in the bud.”

It said the military would work with the police to establish the source of the military uniform one of the criminal suspects was wearing.

He expressed concern about the unauthorized sale of military uniforms and said this could not continue.

The Northern Regional Police Command in a terse statement said; “The five robbery suspects snatched a Toyota Camry salon car from its owner at a residential area in Tamale and bolted.

However, the Police pursued them and succeeded in arresting them at Buipe.” It said a search conducted on the suspected violent criminals uncovered a G3 rifle and a pistol.

The statement gave the assurance that further details would be provided by the regional police command in due course.
