279 Ghanaians and other 107 foreign nationales including Burkinabes, Malians, Togolese, Nigerians and Nigerans have been arrested by Ghana Army for various fractions and are been carefully screened. The Service also launched a program to help promote security in the Upper West Region and Ghana as a whole. This launching was done by the security services including Ghana Police Service, Bureau of National Investigation, Ghana National Fire Service.
Those individuals are suspected to be the cause of fighting and other disturbances in the region. According to the Brigadier General, Emmanuel Okyere, National Security Advisor, they are preparing for any upcoming 'fire' and terrorist attacks and that they wouldn't wait for attacks to rise in the country before they act. They are doing everything possible to prevent any terrorist attack on the land of Ghana.
He said these terrorist are dangerous and could pounce on citizens unexpectedly or unawares. The air has been cleared as residents thought the army officers after a particular ethnic group but it has been proven now that we were after a network of criminals, he added. He also said their aim has been accomplished as they have been able to arrest these individuals.
