This magnificent temple known as the Parthenon was built on the Acropolis of Athens.
It was built and dedicated to the city's patron deity Athena between 447 and 432 BCE in the age of the Pericles.
Despite the explosions, looting, ravages of time, pollution, and damages it still stands strong dominating the modern city of Athens.
The temple is also known to be a symbol of the glory of the renowned city. Research has it that the temple will remain useful for over a thousand years due to its ability to stand strong despite all these factors that could have destroyed it.
The temple is designed by the architects Iktinos and Kallikratis and the project was also supervised by the sculptor Phidias.
The temple is made up of so much marble, for it was made from about 22,000 tons of Pentelic marble from the nearby Mt. Pentelicus.
Pentelic marble was known for its pure white appearance and fine grain.
