Four police officers interdicted over brutality of civilians

The police administration has with immediate effect interdicted four police officers working with the Northern Regional Police Command following the alleged assault of persons in Tamale in the Northern Region today, Tuesday, September 21, 2021.

The four name with held, were assigned to assist Northern Electricity Distribution Company and Volta River Authority, NEDCO/VRA officials to arrest some alleged civilians involved in illegal power connections and theft of power.

The officers were video tape assaulting the men believed to be the persons allegedly engaged in the illegal tapping of the power.

In a statement signed and issued by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kwesi Ofori, the officers will face a Service Inquiry, subject to the regulations of the Ghana Police Service.

Process have commenced to identify the victims for necessary medical assessment and assistance.

The police service has apologized unconditionally to the affected persons and the general public.

Police brutality on civilians is not new.
