Read and share: A new directive for all Mobile Money Users

 Finally the day has come that all MOMO users are expected to do all their transactions with a valid ID summited to the Merchant.

The MTN Ghana had earlier on given a directive which stated that from April 2, 2021, a subscriber must present one of the following cards to the Merchant before any mobile money related transactions can be done.

1. Driving License

2. Passport

3. Ghana Card

4. Volter's ID

5. SSNIT ID

6. NHIS

 Based on these new directives, all MOMO users are advised to cross check their details before April 2, 2021, in other to avoid any inconveniences that may occur due to "incorrect details".


WHY THIS NEW DIRECTIVE

 This move is as a way MTN Ghana want to use to curb the high prevalence of fraud on the MoMo platform.

 It is quite obvious on how "fraudsters" are now a-days on the neck of people especially on the MOMO platform. There has being a lot of complaints which I personally "am a testimony of how fraudsters call to claim what does not belong to them".

 But can this stop fraudsters from scamming MOMO users?

 I believe with the little research I did that this might not stop fraudsters from stealing our monies. 

Why do I say that?

Now this fraudsters are coming up with different format every blessed day to scam users, I quite remember that on March 31, 2021, one man called and was posing as a client from MTN Ghana. 

An except of our conversation;

He: Are you...(he mentioned my name)

Me: yes please

He: am calling from MTN Ghana, I hope you have received the umbrellas after you became a MOMO Merchant?

Note: Meanwhile am not an Agent. But I imposed to be one.

Me: No they haven't given me any umbrella.

He: how long have you being an agent?

Me: like two years now.

He: Ok, we will bring you the umbrella very soon.

Me: Ok thank you.

He: Is your merchant book with you now?

Me: yes please.

He: what are some of the difficulties you are facing with your work.

Me: it has to do with the fraud activities of the fraudsters...

 Immediately after saying this, he disconnected the line. I called several times but to no avail. 

Meanwhile this new initiative by the MTN Ghana would definitely help to an extent of not to end all fraud activities and for that we are waiting to see.

 As all MOMO users are advised to send their ID for all their mobile money transactions, there are definitely some Importance of this initiative.


WHAT SHALL BE REQUIRED FROM THE ID DURING A TRANSACTION

 When an agent is performing a cash out for a subscriber, the agent is required to select the ID type(voters, NHIS, Driver's license, Ghana card, etc) and enter the ID number of the ID card provided by the subscriber.

 Now when this is done, MTN Ghana will validate(match the details on your ID to your details you used in registering the SIM) the following;

1a. Your name on the ID

 b. First name (First)

 c. Second name (Second)

 d. Middle name (If any)

2a. Date of birth (DOB)

 b. Format: (DD/MMM/YYYY)

3. ID type

4. ID number

NOTE: there are some other fields but the above listed are the eminent (important) ones required by the MTN Ghana.


WHAT YOU ARE TO DO NOW

"Please to know whether your momo account was registered in your name and with your ID dial *400*1#."

 After dialing the above code, MTN Ghana will send a text message which will display the following;

1. Name: [first name, second...]

2. ID Type: [VOTER ID, NHIS, SSNIT, etc]

3. ID No.: [******1234]

4. Date of Birth: [01/Sep/****]

NOTE: A link shall be given for you to update your details if there are any mistakes.

 I advise that you follow the link whether or not there are any mistake in the details provided above.

Why do I say that?

 This is because the link will lead you to your personal MTN Ghana portal where you can make changes in your details by yourself. You can change the ID, the date of birth and a whole lot more.


HOW TO ACCESS THE PORTAL

This is how the portal looks like when you follow the link;

First and foremost, you will be ask to "Enter your MTN phone number and click submit to receive a 6 digit pin".

 After receiving the pin through text message, you are to input it in the section designated.

Finally the portal shall open and will display the following in that oder;

1. FIRST NAME *

2. LAST NAME *

3. MIDDLE NAME

4. DATE OF BIRTH (DD/MMM/YYYY) * 

5. ID NUMBER *

6. ID TYPE *

7. GENDER *

8. RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS(including GH post GPS) *

9. REGION OF RESIDENCE *

10. NATIONALITY

11. UPLOAD ID CARD (max 4MB) *

12. UPLOAD PHOTO HOLDING ID (max 4MB) *
