A leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Felix Kwakye Ofosu has stated that, the Minister designate for Fisheries, Mavis Hawa Koomson is not fit for nomination as a Minister.

According to the former Deputy Information Minister, the Public misconduct and her involvement in a shooting incident during the voter registration exercise last year was enough reason not to appoint her for any ministerial position.

The nomination of Mrs. Hawa Koomson generated a lot of discussions among a section of Ghanaians due to her performance at the Vetting Committee of Parliament where she appeared not prepared as her answers to most of the questions were not satisfactory.

Some Civil Society Organizations led by IMANI's Frankly Kudjoe have called for her disqualification by the appointment Committee because she is not fit for that position.

This is partly due to her involvement in the shooting incident during the voter registration exercise in her Constituency last year.

When she was asked about the shooting incident at the Vetting Committee, she indicated that, she acted in that way because she felt her life was in danger.

She also apologized and indicated that, since the matter is under investigations by the Police, she does not want to talk about it further.
