Member of Parliament for Obuasi West, Kweku Kwarteng, has recently passed a very controversial comment that has gotten many Ghanaians talking. Ever since the government of Ghana started making advances to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout, some Ghanaians have called for the controversial tax (E-Levy) to be abolished.
The Obuasi MP has recently come out to tell Ghanaians point-blank that the E-levy will not be abolished. According to him, the E-levy was never considered as a replacement for the International Monetary Fund.
On Friday, 1st July 2022, the Ministry of Information stated that President Nana Akufo-Addo has granted Ghana permission to begin negotiations with the International Monetary Fund for a bailout.
Kweku Kwarteng claims that the IMF will probably say that the E-levy is insufficient for the generation of revenues for the country.
According to the government, President Nana Akufo Addo’s negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) would be overseen by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.
