Haruna Iddrisu Gives Simple Reply When Asked By Speaker To React To The 2022 Budget

Ken Ofori Atta, the Finance Minister, today, Wednesday delivered the 2022 Budget reading. The budget even before its reading was expected to reduce taxes and produce relief for Ghanaians who have been complaining about the hardships in the country. The Minority however tagged the budget as the Serwaa Broni Budget which will end up overburdening the government.

The budget as read by Ken Ofori Atta centered on entrepreneurship, NABCO, Digitalization, Health, Roads among other issues. One of the interesting new taxes areas was on new levies on MOMO transactions and the minority have reacted to the new budget. The Speaker in the seat, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah asked if there are questions from the caucuses and Haruna Iddrisu the Minority Leader spoke on how the Minority views the Budget.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, times are hard and the new budget is not easing any burden with the new budget. He questioned the rationale behind the new taxes on MOMO and wondered if this was an easing of taxes. Haruna Iddrisu also raised concerns about the increasing debt of Ghana under the NPP. He noted that Ghanaians have listened to the budget that there is nothing new. He explained that the Minority will scrutinize and debate the budget till it addresses certain concerns.

With cheers from the Minority side, Haruna Iddrisu added that the expression on the Finance Minister and the absence of the Vice President in the house was evidence that the budget will stress Ghanaians and render them poor. The Minority with singing called the Budget a hopeless one while the Majority reacted with the tag of an ‘Agyenkwa’ Budget intended to save Ghanaians.
