The Member of Parliament for the people of Assin Central, Mr. Kennedy Agyapong has taken a swipe at the Minster for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
According to him, the 97 pesewas feeding fee dedicated for children on the school feeding program is not enough and must be increased.
Mr. Kennedy Agyapong made the remark on NET 2 television’s The Seat Show with Kwaku Annan. According to him, most of the women who have signed on to the school feeding program are complaining of the low feeding fee but nobody seems to care.
He adds that most of the women are running at a loss because 97 pesewas is not enough to prepare banku, meat, and stew for a child.
“Adwoa Safo cannot tell me that a woman must be given 97 pesewas for cooking on school feeding. Times have changed and they have to increase it. If it cannot be increased then stop cooking or the children because the women are suffering. They don’t even understand business. They just love cooking. They cook banku, fish, and stew for 97 pesewas. This is not possible”. He intimated.
According to the maverick Member of Parliament, the women who are rolled on to the program have also been blaming some coordinators for deducting a percentage of the monies before final payment is made. He described the act as unfortunate and indicated that most of the women are being consumed by debt.
”They are also complaining that some of the coordinators take part of their monies. I don’t have evidence of this allegation but it’s a bad practice. Most of these women borrow the ingredients to cook and they are not even paid on time. Sometimes for over a year, they will not receive anything. Listen well, as for me I will speak my mind. Ghanaian businesses will continue to suffer until we change”. He added.
He is advising the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to as a matter of urgency increase the feeding fee or cancel the program.
