GPL: Can Ebusua Dwarfs’ survival hopes dent Hearts of Oak’s title ambition?

Traditional football clubs in Ghana are usually powerful and have a large and mostly indigenous following. Fans of these clubs can be described often as “fanatics” due to their wild nature. Some traditional clubs in Ghana include, Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Sekondi Eleven Wise, Ebusua Dwarfs, Real Tamale United, Accra Great Olympics and BA United, just to mention a few. The fans of these teams revere their clubs so much that, they tend to follow it more like a religion.

One of such clubs among the above mentioned, Ebusua Dwarfs will test the mettle of another huge one, Hearts of Oak in the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League. The two sides clash at the Cape Coast Stadium in match day 32 in what could determine the fate of all of them. The three points at stake is very crucial for both teams as one needs them to keep a premier league title hopes alive with the other needing them to survive the league. Hearts of Oak lead the league table with 59 points from 31 matches with their rivals, Kotoko in second on 56 points. The Phobians need the three points to keep the difference between them and Kotoko alive.

Ebusua Dwarfs on the other hand are desperate for points to keep their survival hopes very much alive. Dwarfs sit 12th on the league log with 37 points to spare. The Crabs are not very safe because they are just a few points away from teams behind them. The Crabs are on same points as Berekum Chelsea but a point better than 14th and 15th place Eleven Wonders and King Faisal. Liberty Professionals and Elmina Sharks follow in 16th and 17th on 35 points with relegated Inter Allies following in 18th with 26 points. The points difference makes the game for Ebusua Dwarfs against Hearts of Oak very dicey.

Hearts of Oak have a little advantage over Dwarfs, having gone ten games under coach Samuel Boadu. The club’s rejuvenation ever since coach Boadu’s arrival can never be underestimated. He has steered the club from an ordinary side into title contenders as football pundits did not give Hearts any chance get close to the league title.

Dwarfs on the other hand have equally been rejuvenated following the appointment of former Ghana Black Queens coach, James Kuuku Dadzie. They have won their last two games on the trot. This goes to state that both Hearts and Dwarfs have good form coming into the week 32 clash. The question going into the clash will be, “will Hearts of Oak continue their winning run or will Dwarfs spoil the party for the Phobians. Until the game is cleared, we remain neutral and bring another update.
