Gabby Otchere Darko sends a 'bitter' message Ghanaians wouldn't want to hear this time

Please share your thoughts on the question asked below. Thank you!

Government of Ghana in the 2021 Budget statement read by Honourable Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu averred that the Coronavirus Pandemic has had a negative impact on the economy and therefore would need to mobilize revenue to run the affairs of the country for the betterment of all Ghanaians. The government in the light of this stated the intentions of introducing a COVID-19 Health levy with among other taxes to shore revenue up.

Ghanaians vented their spleen towards the introduction of the new taxes. The Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in an interview which sought to clear concerns raised about the new proposed taxes said that the burden brought about by the pandemic had to be shared by all Ghanaians.

Majority of Ghanaians after hearing this became more furious with the NPP government led by Nana Addo for being deceitful. The government per Ghanaians introduced the taxes as an indirect payment for the freebies enjoyed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

Gabby Otchere Darko who happens to be a leading member of the ruling NPP government has waded into the ongoing brouhaha surrounding the new taxes introduced. Gabby has rubbished rumours that the government is sharing the burden of COVID-19 amongst Ghanaians.

Gabby in a Facebook post explained to Ghanaians that the government is not asking them to pay for the cost of Covid-19 last year but the government only wants Ghanaians to help share the burden of the cost brought as a result of the COVID-19. He also reminded Ghanaians of the task ahead of the government in rebuilding the economy and therefore the good people of Ghana should help in rebuilding the economy.

He noted, "The 2021 budget is not asking you to pay for the cost of 2020. You are being asked to help share the burden of the existing Covid-19 costs including vaccines for over 20 million Ghanaians.”

He therefore advised Ghanaians to help the government rebuild the economy and rubbish the rumours claiming that this government led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has deceived Ghanaians.

Dearest, do you agree with what Gabby Otchere said concerning the newly introduced taxes?
