You can’t accept alcoholic sponsorship, it’s against our national policy - FDA tells GFA

The Ghana Football Association has been warned by the Food & Drugs Board Authority against an alcoholic brand sponsorship deal.

The Communications Director of the FA, Henry Asante Twum, recently hinted that the FA is set to unveil title sponsors for the Ghana Premier League, Division One and Women’s League.

In an interview with Sadick Adams on Angel Floodlight Sports, the Public Relations Officer of the Food and Drugs Board Authority has warned the FA against the upcoming deal, saying it's against the nation's policy.

"Our policy affects every industry, and if GFA wants an alcoholic brand as a sponsor for their league, they must first petition or give a proposal to the Ministry of Youth & Sports to push for a review of the policy on alcoholic drink advertising in the country for them." -said Mrs. Rhoda Appiah.

"It's affecting everybody, even the entertainment people are having their fair share of it, so there’s no review in the policy that football can’t receive alcoholic sponsorship." She added.
