The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) organized by Primetime Limited [originally sponsored by Brilliant Soap until 1998] is one of the longest educational TV programmes in Ghana if not the longest. The “Brilla” (short form for brilliant) Competition as it is so called by many was introduced in 1993 and the competition has seen several brilliant people moderating it. These include the late Prof. Marian Ewurama Addy as its first quiz mistress and two others coming after her; Dr. Eureka Emefa Adomako and Dr. Elsie Effah Kauffmann (current quiz mistress of the competition at the national level).
The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) is an annual competition which seeks to test the knowledge students in the field of Science and Mathematics from the various second cycle institutions (senior high schools) in Ghana. The aim of the longest TV educational programme in Ghana is to promote the study of Science and Mathematics, assist students in developing critical thinking skills and applying the scientific knowledge in their everyday life while enhancing the academic rivalry among senior high schools in Ghana. It can be said that the competition has achieved its aim and even went a step further to win an award at the CIMG awards in 2017 as the TV programme of the year.
Last year's competition saw Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School (PRESEC, Legon) (six-time champions, nine-time finalist and the most successful school in the competition) win against the likes of Opoku Ware School (two-time champions and eight-time finalist) and Adisadel College (one-time champion and five-time finalist).

This year’s competition will see over 600 senior high schools battle it out for the academic bragging rights. The national competition starts at the regional level for some schools. Several senior high schools from the various sixteen (16) regions in Ghana would face one another in order to get a slot at the Preliminary Stage of the competition. The regional qualification competition starts on May 3, 2021 from the Greater Accra and Upper West regions of Ghana and ends on June 3, 2021.
Below is list of the schools which have been seeded for the 2021 National Competition because of their progress to the quarter-final stage of the 2020 National Competition. These schools would not participate at the regional qualification level since they have an automatic slot at the national level.
