I Have A Problem With Article 202, Where The President Appoints The IGP - George Ayisi

The Communication Director of NADMO, George Ayisi, has said that he has a problem with Article 202 of the constitution where the President appoints the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

George Ayisi made this statement on TV3's 'New Day' program today, 8th July 2021, when he called for a second look at Ghana's constitution about the appointment of the IGP.

"I think it's time we have to look at the constitution. Especially, I have a problem with Article 202, where the President appoints the Inspector General of Police (IGP). It doesn't encourage institutional growth." He said

According to him, we may have a very professional and competent Police Officer who has risen through the ranks, but due to a suspension of his lineage politically, although he is qualified to be the IGP, they will appoint his junior over him.

He added that When there is a demonstration, the IGP who is appointed by the President will whip the demonstrators to protect the president who appointed him.
