President of Haiti, His Excellency Jouvenel Moïse, has been reportedly shot dead by some unknown assailants in his own house in the nation's capital, Port-au-Prince, according to the interim Prime Minister, Claude Joseph.
Prime Minister Claude Joseph reported that the unknown assailants stormed the president's premises at the capital, Port-au-Prince, at about 01:00 local time (05:00 GMT) on Wednesday, July 7.
Various news sources also indicate that the first lady was also attacked and severely injured during the sad incident.
He [Claude Joseph] however assured a smooth continuance of everything in the country and has said that measures have been put in place to guarantee just that.
53-year-old Jouvenel Moïse has been in office since February, 2017, after his predecessor, Michael Martelly exhumed office. He was able to control and steer the affairs of the country since inspite of unstable political atmosphere.
Haiti is one of the poorest and politically unstable countries located on the Caribbean Island and shares borders with Cuba, Jamaica, and also not too far from the United States.
Jouvenel Moïse was one of the presidents of Haiti whose tenure was very rocky—faced accusations of serious corruption—and was challenged by waves of often violet protests from the citizenry.
