Human beings have so many needs that are essential to his or her survival on this planet earth. These needs arranged in descending order are 1. Biological needs, 2. Safety needs, 3. Love and Belonging, 4. Self Esteem needs and 5. Self Actualization needs.
Man's unquenchable crave for safety has landed him or her in the hands of different entities that claim to have the power to provide safety to mankind. Safety can be grouped into spiritual and physical safety.
Recent visits to public gatherings such as Christian and Islamic funerals, weddings, mosques and churches have witnessed massive sales of drugs, thus, creams and oils that claim to save man from witches, wizards, marine spirits and other spirits that are believed to inflict pain, failure and all manner of bad luck to human beings.
These assorted creams and oils are geared towards providing spiritual fortification for man against bad spirits, dwarfs, witches and wizards.
Effective use of them is to open marital doors, usher one into successful traveling opportunities, charm other people to act and respond as we wish. One man even recounts how he used a spiritual oil to charm a foreign embassy to Grant him visa beyond his imagination.
Now, the question is " do these creams, oils, soaps, bangles and stickers really work"?
In Christianity, no! Acts 4:12 " 12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” What the above means is that, as Christians, we only can have salvation, liberation and deliverance through the power of Jesus alone.
One would ask " why the handkerchiefs of Paul could heal the sick".
In Acts chapter 19:12 " so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them" In this verse, the aprons and handkerchiefs of Paul had nothing in them. It however happened that when the Apostle got tired to minister physically, God in his power had to find a way to finish His business.
It therefore happens that, whoever is of God Almighty is charged with power that performs wonders that transcends beyond human imagination.
It should however be noted that Paul's handkerchiefs did not become a habit of healing. It happened when necessary. As a result, people did not put their hopes in that forgetting about God.
Why then should some Pastor's creams and oils become a habit. Is it not an idolatry in disguise when people put all their hopes in these things? Your comments are invited.
