Medeama Sporting Club have seen a renaissance under newly installed head coach, Umar Abdul Rabi lately.
The Mauve and Yellow struggled from the beginning of the season under former coach, Ignatius Osei Fosu who has since been sacked by the club for poor performance. The two time Ghana FA Cup winners started the season very poorly with a heavy 4-0 defeat at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park against Bechem United. The club’s spokesman, Patrick Akoto blamed the defeat to the COVID-19 vaccination taken by the players.
The Mauve and Yellow continued their poor form under Ignatius Osei Fosu in a 1-1 drawn game against premier league new boys, Gold Stars in the second week at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa. Ignatius Osei Fosu was subsequently sacked when Medeama pulled a goalless draw at the Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman against Eleven Wonders in the third week.
His place was taken by then assistant, Umar Abdul Rabi who masterminded a good start to the top. Rabi led Medeama to beat Karela 2-0 at home in the fourth week. They subsequently pulled a point at the Baba Yara Stadium in the fifth week against in form King Faisal. They will travel up North against premier league returnees, Real Tamale United in week six at the Aliu Mahama Stadium. A win will take them to nine points and push closer to the top six.
