In Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah's statue can be found at the Kwame Nkrumah Museum and Memorial park located in downtown, Greater Accra Region. Dr Kwame Nkrumah was not only fighting for the true liberation and development of Ghana but Africa as a whole.
He was a true Pan-Africanist who once said that "Africa is a paradox which illustrates and highlights neo-colonialism. Her earth is rich, yet the products that come from above and below the soil continue to enrich, not Africans predominantly, but groups and individuals who operate to Africa’s impoverishment". – Neo-Colonialism: the Last Stage of Imperialism, 1965.
Kwame Nkrumah's agenda was to unite Africa and make Africa prosper but unfortunately, he passed away on 27th April 1972 in Bucharest, Romania. Though his aim for Africa was not completely achieved, some countries still honoured him by putting up his statue in their country.
One of the countries that have honoured Dr Kwame Nkrumah with a statue is Ethiopia. His statue is found in the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. This was to remember him of his iconic speech about Africa unity in May 1963. The summary of his speech was "Africa must unite or perish". And up till today, most African countries are struggling because they fail the come together as one people.
The statue of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah below is also found in the capital city of Mali, Bamako. This was also to remember his aim of uniting Africa when he was alive. The truth of the matter is Dr Kwame Nkrumah was a hero across Africa and the globe. Some Ghanaians believe that the fact that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wants to 'shade' his image in Ghana cannot change his immense contribution to Africa.
