WHAT IS A GOAL?
•A goal is the object of a person’s ambition or effort; an aim or a desired results.
WHY SET A GOAL?
1.To have a long term vision for your life. This is how you would like to ultimately be remembered for your work or the ultimate outcome you would like to achieve.
2.It gives motivation. When you set goals for yourself, it is important that they motivate you: this means making sure that there is value in achieving them.....Motivation is key to the high priorities in your life.
3.Helps you not to live your life anyhow. Goals that you have set always reminds you to work hard in other to achieve that goal. It shapes you to think further to learn more skills.
HOW TO SET GOALS?
1.Write down the big dream/the big picture.
2.Break down the goal.(short term, medium term, long term ).
3.Identify the process you have to undertake to achieve the goal.
Goal setting must be a brainstorming session.
--Your goal must be smart.
•S- Specific (significant) Goals must be well defined, clear, and unambiguous.
•M- Measurable (meaningful) With specific criteria that measure your progress toward the accomplishment of the goal.
•A- Attainable (Action oriented) Achievable and not impossible to achieve.
•R- Relevant (Rewarding) Goals must be realistic, within reach, and relevant to your life purpose.
•T- Time bound (Trackable) Goal must be with a clearly defined timeline, including a starting date and a target date. The purpose is to create urgency
GOAL SETTING ARE NOT CAST IN CONCRETE.
•Goal setting is an important method for;
1.Deciding what to achieve in your life
2.Separating what’s important from what’s irrelevant, or a distraction.
3.Motivating your self
4.Building your self confidence, based on successful achievement of goals.
ACHIEVING OUR GOALS
--1--HAVE A PLAN; Decide in detail what you are going to do, and focus or implement your action towards it.
•What will it take to achy each goal?
•What’s the path to achieving your goal?
•What support systems do you need?
•Do you require a mentor?
--2--STAY FOCUSED; Continue to work towards whatever it is that you need to do and ensure that you stay concentrated on that one activity.
