John Mahama, presidential aspirant of the opposition National Democratic Congress in the 2016 and 2020 elections is ending his tour of Ghana this week. The Thank you tour is winding up in the Greater Accra and the first stop was today, Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Power FM. In the company of Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, the duo discussed a number of issues relating to the country and the way forward.
One of the first issue to be discussed was the comments from the Electoral Commission regarding an investigation from the police regarding alleged EC thefts of votes for the ruling NPP. According to John Mahama, he insists that elections were skewed in favor of the NPP. He noted that if it wasn’t, Jane Mensa wouldn’t have run away from testifying at the Supreme Court. John Mahama added that he was ready to stand trial just to defend the claim that the EC has not been open on the last elections.
John Mahama called for an open investigation from an international independent agency. He explained that he will welcome an ECOWAS enquiry and will sear under oath and testify. He pledged to testify if the EC boss Jane Mensa is also ready to be a witness in the enquiry proceedings. He dared the EC to accept this challenge so that the truth comes out.
“I am ready to testify under oath. What can the police investigate? They should bring the case before an ECOWAS court so that Jean Mensa testifies. We will know the truth then” John Mahama said.
It is yet to be seen if the EC will welcome an independent enquiry to delve into the last elections. the Electoral Commission have claimed that they never faulted in the 2020 elections. they have called on the NDC to accept that they lost in the last election and work for subsequent ones.
