When authorities of Achimota school rejected the Rastafarian students because of his dreadlocks, most Ghanaians thought that Ghana Education Service (GES) being the head of all schools in the country will make sure that the authorities at Achimota School will accept the boy. But surprisingly, the authorities turn down the directive of GES.
This propelled many Ghanaians to react that it appears GES does not have the 'courage' and 'mandate' to control Secondary School authorities in the country. Recently, Wesley Girls School (Methodist Church) gave a directive that they will not allow Muslim students in the country to fast. The authorities of the school came to this decision on the health ground of the Muslim students.
But on 1st May 2021, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, the Head of Public Relation Unit of Ghana Education Service in a Press Conference directed Westley Girls School (Methodist Church) authorities that they should allow Muslim students to fast whiles in school.
It appears this directive from GES has also back-fired. The letter above shows that the leadership of the Methodist Church Ghana held a meeting today, 4th May 2021, and came to a conclusion that they cannot accept the directive from GES because for about 186 years this rule has been in their school and parents are aware of that.
Citi TV and FM Journalist, Umaru Sanda Amadu has used his official Facebook account to react that the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the New Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum needs to prove to Ghanaians that they are in charge of every education issues in the country.
The sensational journalist seems to lose confidence in the GES and the Education Minister that they are not on top of their job. This is what he wrote on his official Facebook page:
"Achimota School defied the GES directive on the Rasta Students. Now, Wesley Girls School (Methodist Church) has defied the GES directive on Muslim Students. The GES and the new Minister for Education need to prove that they have balls because they seem to have become Simpapanyi. Who is really in charge?".
