It is the wish of every woman to give birth to a health and kicking baby when pregnant, but few women pay enough attention to what they eat and drink during pregnancy. Unpasteurized Milk. Consuming unpasteurized milk, cheese or fruit juice increase the risk of bacterial infection. The bacteria in these food items can affect the development of the foetus including damaging the eye nerves leading to child blindness.
Alcohol intake. Stay away from alcohol and alcoholic beverages completely when pregnant. Alcohol intake can increase the risk of miscarriage, still birth and fetal alcoholic syndrome.
Too much intake of caffeine. Taking about 2 to 3 cups of caffeine products such as coffee and energy drinks during pregnancy may limit baby's growth and cause low birth weight.
Raw Egg. Raw eggs may be contaminated with salmonella, and may put your baby at risk. This bacteria can cause blindness to your unborn baby. Thoroughly cook eggs before eating.
Organ Meat. Organ meat such as liver is a great source of iron, vitamin B12, vitamin A and copper. Too much consumption of these meats gives too much weight to the developing foetus which can force a premature birth. They must be consumed moderately.
Raw fish and shellfish. Raw fish such as herrings, Tuna, cat fish etc are high in mercury which affects the development of some bodily organs of the unborn baby. These fishes can also be contaminated with bacteria and parasites. These fish can cause serious health harm both to you and your unborn baby. Fishes such as Salmon should be eaten on regular basis since it is high in omega 3.
