Their parents must be held responsible; Ghanaians react as two children die in a broken-down car

Effective parenting goes a long way in shaping how children behave and what they turn up to be in future. Though factors such peer pressure and other experiences affect the behavior of children, the emotional, social and physical well-being of children lies squarely at the doors of their parents. The Holy Bible teaches parents to train up their children in a way that if the grow, they will not depart from it. However to work pressure and financial constraints, some Ghanaian parents fail is properly discharging their parental duties. Aside from unfavorable economic situation, there are parents who are simply irresponsible, and leave their children to their fate, without any proper counseling.

Due to the adventurous nature of children, there is the tendency for them to go to the extreme, and without effective parenting, they stand the risk of running into trouble.

Ghanaians therefore reacted massively to a press release by the Ghana Police Service indicating that two three-year old children lost their lives through avoidable means in Alajo, a suburb of Accra. In a letter signed by Alexander Kweku Obeng Superintendent, Director, Public affairs, the said children lost their lives on Friday, October 15, after their bodies were found at the back passenger seat of a broken-down Mercedes salon car parked at the mechanic shop.

According to the release, the police has commenced investigations into the cause of death of the children, and the bodies of the children are kept in the Police Hospital for autopsy and preservation. The Police Service cautioned parents to be wary about the whereabouts of the children. They advised operators of mechanic shops to put safeguards in place to avoid such situations.
