Thousands of teenage girls become pregnant each year before graduating from junior high and secondary school around the country. Children in rural communities are almost always at the top of the charts. Poverty is a big factor in teen pregnancy since young girls are sometimes left to their own devices while at school. This encourages them to have a number of boyfriends who will sponsor them.
Beatrice Agyei attends Offinso Namon Senior High Technical School as a senior high school student. Beatrice's ambition is to become a professional nurse in the near future, however given her current situation, her ambitions may not be realized. Beatrice has twins, yet she is still in school. Because the children are small and require their mother's constant attention, she is required to transport them to school on a regular basis.
While her classmates are busy studying the most of the time, she is responsible for her children and must breastfeed them in the classroom. She's been dubbed "school maame" as a result of this. Beatrice's mother is late, and her father has been unemployed for a long time. Her grandma, who could have been able to help her, is elderly and frail.
Beatrice claims that after her mother died, she has had no one to help her, therefore she used to work as a dishwasher at a neighborhood chop house, where she was paid only GHC 3. Then she met a young man who offered to help her, but she was pregnant before she realized it. She became pregnant in her first year and carried on till she gave birth to twins. She returned to school two months after giving birth, indicating that she was committed to finishing her degree.
She occasionally leaves her children with an anonymous woman selling food on school grounds, then returns to breastfeed them during recess. Her spouse is unreliable since she only provides them GHC 20 every week. Please see the video below.
