Wenchi Health Directorate Records 330 Teenage Pregnancy Within 6Months.

The Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region has recorded a significant figure of 330 teenage pregnancies within the first six months of the year, (2022) Mr Robert Kwaku Bio has disclosed.

According to Mr Robert Kwaku Bio who doubles as the Wenchi Municipal Director of Health Service, the issue of teenage pregnancy has become a major challenge in the Bono Region.

In an interview with the media Mr Bio related that a total of 288 teenage pregnancies were recorded in 2021 while 330 cases of teenage pregnancies were also recorded within a period of six months in 2022 this year.

Per the information we had at the Directorate in 2020 we had 228 children who were pregnant.

This means that teenage pregnancy in the area is increasing at an alarming rate.

Mr Bio expressed worrv about the situation and attributed the high rate of teenage pregnancies in the Municipality to lack of parental care, irresponsible parenting and lack of communication between parents and children.

He said in order to curb the menace he said his outfit is considering organising stakeholders meeting to create awareness about the dangers that teenage pregnancy poses in the society and the need to discourage it.

Mr Bio further described as unfortunate that many victims in the teenage pregnancy are young ladies who who attend basic and secondary schools respectively.

We know that these adolescents have their periods in every month, and doubt whether parents are aware to provide them sanitary pads to know the conditions of their female children to help monitor them.

To help solve the issue, Robert Kwaku Bio called for all hands on deck to find a lasting solution to the teenage pregnancy in the Wenchi Municipality and for that matter the country in general.
