Blessed Godsbrain Smart popularly known in the Ghanaian media space as Captain Smart, has made yet another controversial statement on his very own legally registed television station, Smart TV, on Monday, May 24, 2021, that Nana Akuffo-Addo should imitate his predecessor, former President John Mahama when dealing with certain aspects of the economy like borrowing.
According to the #Fixthecountry advocate, all that he and of course every Ghanaian want is for a better tomorrow for the younger generation and generations yet unborn. So decisions that we are making today would go a long way to affect and shape the nature of tomorrow.
To this end, he lamented on the rate at which His Excellency the President of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo and his government are borrowing. According to him, we may not see the dire consequences now, but the future generation may have a difficult time defraying the huge debt.
According to Captain Smart, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo must adopt some strategies that his predecessors adopted that limited their borrowing rates. He argued that John Mahama might have mismanaged the economy during his time, yet his rate of borrowing was surprisingly much lesser compared to his.
This statement follows the Ministry of Roads and Highway's Minister's information to the public that an amount of about close to GH¢ 8 billion is needed to rehabilitate the road infrastructure deficiency in the country. This means another borrowing.
"If you want to fix the country, that is indeed good news and we gladly appreciate it. But trying to fix the country at the expense of so much borrowing is something that cannot be accepted. I suggest you do it like how Mahama started to fix the country from dumsor and others in 2016 without incurring so much debt and be free," Captain Smart said.
