The mother bank of all banks in Ghana has urged Ghanaians that, "anyone who operates an account with any of its registered and licensed financial institutions but that account has become dormant/inactive for some time now, should endeavour to visit their brach of such bank to reactivate the account at no fee or charge.
This announcement was made on the 23rd of April 2021, on the Apex bank's Facebook page and Twitter handles to the general public. The apex bank further stated that every account holder should remember that, your bank will not all allow you to withdraw from your account if the account is dormant.
The mother bank also informed the general public to always ensure that their bank contact details are up to date to enable the bank reach them easily in case their accounts become dormant. Should anyone have any complaints or challenges in the process, the apex bank has provided various forms of contacts that one could use to report to them such as Phone call, WhatsApp, email or visit them on the 7th floor of cedi house, Accra
The recent economic turndowns on major and minor business activities in the country due to the pandemic have really affected the financial states of most of the citizens. The situation has generally had an impact on the saving habits of Ghanaians due to the fear of losing their hard-earned income. This made some of the citizens to do what the apex bank described as "Panic withdrawal" in a statement it released on 6th March 2020 in its Statement on the convid-19 pandemic. The Panic withdrawal at the time, could probably be the cause of the dormant accounts. Most people preferred at the peak era of the pandemic to keep their monies in the savings box for easy reach rather than saving them at the bank.
But now that the government has eased a lot of the convid-19 restrictions, This is going to help boost the economic activities which would generally have a ripple effect in the citizens lives and savings habbits.
