The nurses at Nyankumase Community Based Health Planning Services ( CHPS) found in the upper Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region have been facing a terrible situation in this past few weeks. The facilities these nurses have been using for their services has been under attack from dangerous snakes, scorpions and other malevolent reptiles.
A record number of poisonous snakes have been killed in the CHPS facility including three big ones. These dangerous animals have been invading the premises and tormenting the nurses there. In the account of one health worker she said “ the number of scorpions killed are uncountable ”.
In the latest encounter between the nurses and these reptiles , an enormous snake sneaked into the compound of the health facility which led to nurses running for their lifes and screaming for help in the process.
This poisonous snake was eventually killed by some residents who yielded to call of the nurses and made sure to search the facility for any signs for other snakes.
In the revelation of the nurses , they were griped with fear and as such it has always been the case whenever they are called to attend to an emergency situation in the night. It even surprising that the community is not connected to the national grid of electricity and this dangerously expose the nurses to numerous dangers.
The Nyankumase CHPS also serve a lot of farming communities but are time in -time out faced with logistical problems including insufficient medical supplies and lack of motorbikes and other means of transportation as the roads that connect the community is in a bad state and also mobile network is very weak.
