The corona virus hit this country last year affecting 91,410 and taking close to 800 lives. The government of Ghana through all means, educated Ghanaians on the health protocols of this deadly virus and also the introduction of free water and electricity to reduce burden during the beginning of 2020.
In the beginning of this year, people of this country as a matter of fact, regretted enjoying these free utilities as the debt incurred during the free periods have been pushed back to the citizens to pay making life uncomfortable. Landlords/landlady's have also used this avenue to increase their rents. imagine a single room with porch now ranges from GH¢120.00-150.00. A single room self contain also ranges from GH¢200.00-250.00 whilst chamber and facility also ranges from GH¢400.00-500.00. These are even the facilities that a tenants will not even enjoy comfortable facility like a tiled floor.
One tenant cried out that if the government through Rent Control can educate people or bring out some policies that may guide house owners on rents, it will be very appreciated. Another tenants also reiterated same that the Nigerians who sometimes pay huge monies on rents have also affected them and ask that government come to their aid to address issues.
