The overlord of Dagbang has a made a special appeal to government to as a matter of urgency take steps upgrade the road infrastructure within the ancient Kingdom to facilitate the easy movement of humans, goods and services.
According to Yaa Naa Mahama Abubakari II, the carting of food stuffs from farming communities to market centers remains a major challenge, with farmers suffering huge post-harvest losses due to the deplorable nature of the roads in his area.
Yaa Naa Abukari made special mention of the Yendi - Zabzugu - Tatale, Tolon - Kumbungu and Gushegu - Karaga - Tamale Roads as some of the road networks that should be upgraded due to the critical roles they play in advancing trade among his people.
The King made the appeal on Friday [March 26, 2021] when the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Alhassan Saibu, led a delegation from the transport ministry to pay a courtesy call on him at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.
The purpose of the visit was to introduce new transport minister, Kweku Ofori Asiamah, to the Overload and to court his support for the continuation of the second phase of Tamale airport expansion project.
In responding to the appeal, Hon. Ofori Asiama, acknowledged that the northern Ghana was the food basket of the country and therefore needed to be accorded the relevant infrastructures in the areas of roads and aviation.
