The 2024 election are far away but the political climate is so high. Already the 2 leading political parties in the country are gearing up for the battle ahead. For the opposition National Democratic Congress, the leadership is somewhat clear and many expect John Mahama to unanimously win and contest for elections on their ticket.
However, for the ruling New Patriotic party, things look dicey as a contingent of stars are set to compete for the sole position of flagbearer. John Mahama continued his Thank You tour of the country today, Tuesday, October 12, 2021 by visiting the Eastern Region. This morning, the former President was in the studios of Sunrise FM where he granted an exclusive interview. In the interview he spoke about corruption, education, governance and his chances in the next elections.
When asked by the host if he and the NDC were ready for the 2024 elections, he was absolute in saying that the NDC are not yet ready for the 2024 elections. He noted that the NDC have a number of elections next year from the grassroots level right to the national level. He also said there was the need for training and retraining of party agents and most importantly he acknowledged that the party had no flagbearer. He told the host that the NDC are still working to be better so that they will wrestle power in 2024.
It will be interesting to see what happens next year regarding the new executives for the party and how they can work together to achieve victory in 2024. Already, some strong contenders are pulling their heads to contest John Mahama.
