The republic of Ghana formally called the gold coast, a name derived from the rich gold reserve of the country was a British colony which gained it's Independence after a long fight and battle with it's colonial masters.
Total freedom and Independence was finally attained on 6th of March 1957 afted several failed attempts.
Ghana enjoyed lots of progress, industrialization and lots of prosperity under Kwanme Nkrumah we who had the hope of forming a formidable United you Africa.
Following his overthrow due to financial mismanagement and other allegations that were labeled against the first president of the republic,the country has witnessed a number of overthrows and coup detas untill the late Flight lietenant Jerry John Rawlings rose to power and brought the country back to it's Democratic state.
The chocked by the country during the Nkrumah era has been incomparable to the subsequent rulers.
At the time of Nkrumah's rule, Ghana was growing faster economically than China who gained Independence in 1947.
Continued growth would have kept Ghana light years further than china,but this has had a change as china which was once poorer than Ghana is no light years developed than Ghana.
Could this be blamed on our leaders or the citizenry?
The country Ghana has been engulfed in a lot of corrupt practices that has seen the country loose huge amounts of it's task players money to the pockets of individuals in power.
The debt to gdp ratio has risen the the level where unborn children are to be born with a debt not less than 12000¢.
Presidents upon presidents have pledged to the fight of corruption withe the latest being the incumbent Nana Akuffo Addo.
But the question is , has there ever been progress in the fight?
The country has moved backward to the extent that it imports almost everything it needs.
The only vital commodity yet to join the importation list is water which by research establishes that by 2025 if the illegal mining activities are not control water could be there imported to the country.
Who is to blame for this backward progress of the country?
The leaders or the populace?.
