Outspoken Ghanaian broadcaster and host of the Onua Maakye show, Captain Smart has finally reacted to the news about the welfare of judges and magistrates in Ghana. He has expressed his worries over the statement from the association indicating how government has failed to pay their due allowances to the association members.
His comments follow after the association of Judges in Ghana in a press briefing decried the non payment of allowances. According to the senior lawyer who addressed Ghanaians, it is a total disrespect for government to delay or refuse payment of allowances due members. The Chief Justice, Annin Yeboah also indicated that no civilised country does what government has done to the members of the association.
Captain Smart, speaking today September 30, 2021 on the "Rant" edition of his televised show, registered his disappointment in the new development. According to him, judges need to be well serviced to protect Ghanaians and reduce corruption. He indicated that judges and lawyers will begin to accept bribery in cash and kind if government fails to respond to their petition.
Captain Smart sent a message to Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo-Addo to step up their efforts to resolve the issue with the lawyers. Surprisingly, he knelt down on live TV to beg President Akuffo-Addo asking him to listen t Chief Justice and pay their allowances due.
He said, "I was surprised when I heard the news. Which country fails to pay judges their allownance in due time. No country no matter how poor you are do that. This is because if you don't pay them well, some will start taking bribes from Ghanaians and that will not help in any way."
He added, "I am begging you Nana, please listen to what Chief Justice said and do something about it. We don't want the situation to get worse. The association coming out to say this means that they have already been disappointed by you."
