Should Ghanaians use their blood to water the plants of freedom?

ExcelleHis ncy John Dramani Mahama has been in the public and media space for the last twenty-four hours for his "DO-OR-DIE" comments.

The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini has claimed that the blood of a Patriotic citizen is used to water the plants of freedom. He made this claim on TV3's Newday today, Wednesday, 8th September, 2021.

He said, " We stood on our grounds in Parliament on 6th January, 2021, to prevent Honourable Carlos Ahenkorah from twisting the outcome of who becomes Ghana's Speaker of Parliament. That is what the Former President is asking us to do come 2024. We should be able to stand for truth, no matter what. We stood and marched the soldiers out of the chamber of Parliament on that night".

The lawmaker sighted instances that put dark spots on the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections. " President Mahama does want repeats of what happened in Techiman, Savelugu and Zabzugu. DO-OR-DIE is an English word that means persevering to achieve something you need or want.

The former Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Oko-Boye disagreed and rebuked what the former president said. " The National Democratic Congress did not do proper collation of results. That is why they were not able to show or produce a single pink sheet in court. John Dramani Mahama is not telling his supporters to protect the constitution, but preparing their minds not to coceade defeat in 2024 elections".

The National Democratic Congress and it's Executives have not chosen their Flagbearer for the 2024 election. However, the Former President stands tall among the competitors.

In 2011, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and National Democratic Congress criticised the then opposition leader, Nana Akuffo Addo for similar comments, " All die be die"

Would John Dramani Mahama be able to turn the fortune of this country around? The 2024 would be very interesting as the National Democratic Congress finds ways and means to wrestle power from the determined New Patriotic Party.
