It was a heated discussion on today's edition of the Onua Maakye show hosted by firebrand Journalist Captain Smart. On the rant version of the show, Captain Smart criticized the government on its decision to acquire a new presidential jet and other matters that have attracted the public attention.
Faruk Al Wahab, an international Diplomatic Consultant who was interviewed by Captain Smart reacted to the living conditions of Northerners in Ghana. He sadly admitted that many people from the region live in abject poverty and seems to have been neglected by their leaders.
Mr. Faruk registered his disappointment in the failure of the Members of Parliament from the Northern Region to provide better conditions for their people. According to him, the unfortunate condition should be blamed on the incompetence of the lawmakers from the region who have been dormant in their efforts to support them.
Speaking further, he indicated that most MPs are originally Northerners, but have ignored their people because they are settling in Ashanti and Greater Accra. He clearly pointed out some prominent MPs who hail from the region but stands against any policy to support his or her people.
He said, "I am yet to find someone called Asamoah who is an MP at Navrongo or Wa. You will not find one, but come to Ashanti Region, native Northerners who are MPs will surprise you. Some are MPs in Volta and Western. This is because when they settle in Ashanti, most of them do not want to go back."
"They come here, become oriented and don't want to go back to help their people again. There are powerful MPs from the region who have come to settle here. No Ghanaian should mistaken to say that Northerners are deprived. Their own MPs and leaders do not recognize themselves as northerners."
