Nana Bee Punches ‘Holes’ Into Mahama’s ‘Fa Ninyinaa’ and ‘Kyemupe’ Tertiary Support Policy

The National Youth Organiser for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Henry Nana Boakye has described as a sham, the latest manifesto promise by the John Dramani Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) to offer full educational sponsorship for Ghanaian students if they are voted into power. According to Nana Bee, as he’s affectionately called, the promise must be treated with disdain given the former President now flagbearer for the NDC has a record of disappointment and mismanagement of the educational system.

The NDC had just announced that it will incorporate two unique education support schemes; ‘Fa ninyinaa’- where government will absorb in full the fees charge on students beginning 2020/2021 academic year for new entrants; and ‘Kyemupe’- where government will offer a 50 percent waiver on fees for continuing students.

But reacting to this new on Okay FM, Nana Bee said the John Mahama and the NDC cannot be trusted on ground that they have an unpardonable record of underperformance and disappointment. He recounted that the John Mahama administration failed to honour payment of teacher and nursing training allowances, overwhelmed tertiary students with utility bills, cancellation of book and research allowances among others.

He rebutted that the NDC is only trying to accommodate these ‘last minute’ changes into their manifesto just at a time when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had announced that the Scholarship Secretariat will open its portals to enable eligible students who had gained admissions into tertiary institutions to access scholarships.

“Today, you've heard that President Nana Addo has empowered the Scholarship Secretariat open up their portal to enable these SHS graduates to be enrolled for sponsorship and so you are out making this promise. You are scared. So you've revised your promise in the Manifesto that you will offer just 50 percent, to a full scholarship support.

“Today, Kingsley Agyeman is launching, and will be opening the portal once again for these students to apply. The moment they heard about it, they hurriedly are promising their free tertiary education”

Nana Bee concluded that the NDC is desperate and should not be taken serious. To him, they have lost the contest far early before the votes are cast.
