"I'm Committed To Promoting Digitalization In Ghana": Prez. Nana Addo

The President of the republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, speaking at the 25th anniversary ceremony of MTN telecommunication company, has revealed that he and his government are committed to promoting digitalization in Ghana.

Speaking at the ceremony held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, he commended the MTN Ghana for the enormous contribution and massive supportive services they have rendered to his government in their quest to ensure and drive effective digitalization in Ghana.

According to President Nana Akuffo-Addo, this was the main reason why the Ministry of Communication was renamed as the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization, which is currently headed by Honorable Ursula Owusu, to ensure that the big agenda of transforming Ghana into a technology-driven country is attained.

This agenda, according to the president, necessitated the introduction of the national identification card which is to help ensure that the digitalization process is significantly engineered fast-paced.

He also said that from last year, the Ministry of Communication and Digitalization is poised to connecting the National Health Insurance Card to the Ghana Card. He also said that the Ghana Revenue Authority has started the process of ensuring that the personal identification number of the Ghana Card becomes the Tax Identification Number (TIN), etc.

"I'm am also proud to say that Ghana is now one of the first countries to introduce the use of QR code in both bank and non-bank transactions throughout the country. This has ensured a realtime payment for items bought in a significantly faster fashion," he said.

"I also want to use this opportunity to thank MTN Ghana for the massive corporate social responsibility they have rendered to Ghana and Ghanaians so far. I have been informed about how you honour your tax payment/honoring obligation on a timely and regular basis. More grease to your elbows," he added.

He also said that Ghana is pursuing many more massive infrastructural projects and so would like MTN Ghana to continue to support and collaborate with the government to deliver to the good people of Ghana.
