The Electoral Commission has indicated that, it has already started the process of payment for refund to Political parties who contested in the December 2020 Elections as required by law.
This was disclosed by the Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Affairs at the Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare.
This was after JoyNews enquired from the Electoral Commission concerning the letter written by the NDC for refund of monies paid by its Presidential candidate and Parliamentary Candidates in the just ended December 2020 Elections.
Details from the letter by the NDC to the Electoral Commission indicates that, per the CI governing the elections, Presidential candidates who are able to secure 25 % of the votes in the elections are entitled to a refund of their filing fees, and in the case of Parliamentary Candidates, those who secured 12.5 % of the votes must also get a refund of their monies.
The NDC letter to the Electoral Commission has since generated a lot of controversies among Ghanaians as some sees this as an endorsement of the results announced by the Electoral Commission, even before the Supreme Court gives its Judgement for the Election petition.
If this reply from the Deputy EC Chairperson is anything to go by, then the NDC and other Political parties must be ready to receive their refund.
