The public hearing on “Proper Sexual Rights and Ghana Family Values” resumed today, Monday, November 29, 2021, with some heated exchanges between Sam George and Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
The Ningo Prampram legislator clashed with his colleague MP from Ablekuma West, Ursula on some aspects of the bill.
Ursula questioned why the bill only focuses on LGBTQ+ activities if it was about upholding public morality.
In response, Sam George asked Ursula, who also doubles as the Minister of Communications and Digitization, to also sponsor a Private Members Bill on adultery and fornication if she’s minded to.
He said contrary to popular claims by some people that Ghana is not a secular state, Ghana is a state with many religions.
“Ghana is not a secular state, people have made that statement and said Ghana is a secular state and we must allow it, Ghana is a pluralistically religious state”, he said before the committee”, he said.
According to Sam George, owing to Ghana being a pluralistically religious state, the activities of LGBTQ+ must be outlawed.
