You Can’t Take That Decision Alone Because You Are Number Three – Randy Abbey ‘Fires’ Alban Bagbin

Over the weekend many distinguished Ghanaians were honored by Otumfuo Asantehene at the Millennium Excellence Foundation Awards. Among some of the recipients were President Akufo-Addo and Manasseh Azure. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin was also expected to receive an award but he failed to do so. His award was later presented to him on Monday in the midst of the other law makers of the House.

Today, Wednesday, July 28, 2021 Kwesi Pratt and Randy Abbey, host of ‘Good Morning Ghana’ blasted Rt. Hon. Bagbin for summoning Parliament because of an award. According to Randy, why on earth will resources be wasted on this when it could have been done quietly. He was of the view that it was an abuse of power for all MPs because Mondays are not days for meetings in Parliament.

“Because the Speaker couldn’t attend the event so Parliament had to be turned into a different event? Then the President should have held his at Jubilee House. What is he trying to tell Ghanaians? He is Number 3 we know that but if the President and Vice had done this, urgent questions would have been filed. There could have been genuine reasons why he didn’t attend but he can’t still make MPs come for the event on a day there is no sitting of Parliament” Randy Abbey queried.

Randy Abbey also jabbed the Speaker for not adhering to safety protocols a day after President Akufo-Addo had enforced more restrictions on the country. He noted that the reception service held for the event was even enough to spread Covid-19.

It is yet to be seen if Alban Bagbin was the one who initiated the event or the organizers called on him to have a special event so they present an award to him. Who bears the cost of the event? Is the Speaker powerful enough to have summoned Parliamentarians on a day not for sitting?
