GBC Has Denied The NDC This Favour For The Past 4 years – Elvis Afriyie Ankrah Alleges

Ghana though considered a multi-party state is practically a 2 party state. The country for the past 30 years has been dominated by the ruling New Patriotic party and the National Democratic Congress. Both political parties have interchangeably governed the country. It is no secret that Ghana’s political system is a winner takes all scheme and so the one who governs has monopoly over almost every state institution.

After the 2020 elections, the NDC raised a number of questions and subsequently proposed a number of reforms to deal with the anomalies of the 2020 election. The proposals have been sent to a number of institutions, notable among them being the Electoral Commission and the NPP. One of the reforms talked about the state broadcasting station being accessible to all political parties.

Today, Saturday, August 28, 2021 on The Keypoints, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a former told Dzifa Bampoe, the host that the opposition NDC have been starved of media coverage by the state broadcasting agency. He wondered why a station being sponsored by the state will refuse to give access to the opposition. Dzifa queried him why other news agencies are covering the NDC’s meetings and still the latter insists on GBC coming in.

“GBC has over the 3- 4 years have not been covering our press conferences. It is their obligation to do that. They are being paid by the tax payers and as per the rules they need to be around and give equal opportunities to all parties” Mr. Ankrah said.
