He says the work as a politician cannot be combined with that of chieftaincy because it is required that chiefs play a neutral role in their various communities.
“There is a line drawn between you as a chief, as a traditional leader and the politician, the reason being that you as chiefs are the fathers of your community and in your community, you have people who will support the various political parties and you should be a neutral person so that you will be a symbol of unity, that can get your people together for development and peace.”
Otumfuo elaborated on the roles of chiefs as settlers and mediators between political parties, supporters of the government of the day saying “we are here to settle amicably issues between both sides of political parties and must be straight with politicians so that we tell them what is wrong and right, and that is what we have to do and support the government of the day”
Otumfuo made the call when the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College visited him as part of their annual environmental tour this time around centered on chieftaincy and local system of governance.
The force’s commander, Rear Admiral Moses Beick- Baffuor revealed the honour it was to have been accepted at the palace giving them the opportunity to broaden their knowledge in terms of chieftaincy and local governance system.
He updated Otumfuo about the state of the Armed Forces, according to him, the college hosts 85 students from Ghana and other 11 African countries who have been divided into four groups: Ashanti region group, Ahafo, Savannah, and Northern region.
Otumfuo educated the group on the responsibilities of chiefs as they climax their tour.
