The activeness and determination by the Ghana police service to have the Madina lawmaker, Hon. Francis Xavier Kojo Sosu, arrested has questioned the freedom of his colleague Honorable member of parliament, Mrs Hawa Koomson who shot a gun. According to Hon Xavier Sosu himself, he is running away from the police but he wants the police to use the right means to arrest him. And this means that the police must follow a procedure in arresting him since he not an "ordinary citizen."
Unlike Xavier Sosu whose action is to fix a road, Mrs Hawa Koomson's action was capable claiming innocent lives. But she was left free, that is the more reason why the NDC see Hon Sosu's apprehension as orchestrated arrest.
You will recall that, in July 2020, Hawa Koomson breached security laws and fired gunshots into a crowd of citizens who were in the process of registering for the controversial voters ID card. This incident occurred in Kasoa. After the incident happened, it was the expectation of many Ghanaians for the police to summon the Awutu Senya West member of parliament for investigation. But to the surprise of Ghanaians, the police did not do it.
That is why it is strange to see the police chase Honorable Xavier Sosu for leading his people to demonstrate against the government on poor roads. This action by police is creating an impression among the populace that, they (police) can be influenced in their line of duty. Until the police correct this wrong impression, they will be seen as a biased secured agency.
If it was parliamentary immunity that protected Hon Hawa Koomson, why can't it protect Hon Xavier Sosu since both of them have equal privileges as lawmakers?
