President Akufo Addo Instructed MMDCEs To Demolish Illegal Structures That Causes Flooding In Accra

President Nana Akufo-Addo has empowered the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra Region to pull down all structures that cause flooding.

He instructed them to demolish structures that block the free flow of water and bring to book any staff that issued permits for structures to be put on waterways. He has also instructed the MMDCEs to take charge of everything and will be accountable for their actions.

“MMDCEs have been charged to ensure that obstructions to the free flow of water as well as developments on waterways are removed immediately. Sanction staff who issue permits for structures to be put on waterways to serve as a deterrent for those who engage in such acts”.

His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo has stated that he will never allow the selfish gain of others to destroy the future of this generation.

“As President, I will not allow the selfish interest of a few to jeopardize the collective future of the rest of us. While the government does its part, we cannot overlook the negative effect of dumping of refuse into open drains by some unpatriotic citizens.”

This follows the flooding that took place on Monday in Accra that has destroyed properties and rented others homeless.
