Ghana will be hosting the maiden delocalized committee meeting, of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, at Winneba- Central Region, from 27 July, to July 31, 2021.
The meeting will bring together 30 Members of Parliament (MPs) from three committees of the ECOWAS Parliament, namely Legal Affairs and Human Rights, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Political Affairs, Peace, Security and African Peer Review Mechanisms.
Speaker Alban Bagbin will be joined by the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament- Sidie Mohamed Tunis of Sierra Leone, and his 2nd Deputy Speaker, Sani Malam Chaibou Boucary of Niger.
The meeting will discuss telecommunication and information technology, and find solutions to roaming issues, peace, and security within the ECOWAS region.
Honourable Mahama Ayariga, who is the spokesperson for the Ghana’s delegation, stated that, “We are meeting so that we can see how we can develop some level of convergence in terms of the institutions across the various countries, both in terms of regulations and the institutions that have been created by various countries to deal with the issues that these technologies create and the opportunities that they provide”.
