Traditional authorities are accorded the needed respect and as a matter of fact, they served as arbitrators long before the white man came and introduced the law courts.
Nevertheless, they still own the lands and their instructions are followed to the letter.
Akwasi Addai alias Odike is an Ashanti by tribe and precisely a native of Adwumakase-kese hence understands the intricacies of culture and custom. The founder of the United Progressive Party is a patriot and he mostly appears on radio programs as a panelist.
As passionate as the politician is, he postulated on Oyerepa FM some days ago, that the seat of Ashanti, Manhyia must come out and deny any involvement in illegal mining as this menace is perpetrated on almost every town destroying the forest and water bodies.
The reactions of 'Nananom' to Odike are no laughing matter and they bare their teeth at the politician by banishing him and all lands belonging to him in his hometown were seized as well.
Critics have said despite the truth in what he said, there is a way to speak to power. You must acknowledge the power, show reverence, and petition. It’s not about being right.
Fast forward, the media house which aired the political talk show on which Odike made those assertions have been ordered to shut down by Manhyia. As announced by Bantamahene, they are supposed to stop operating from tomorrow onwards.
