The brouhaha over salaries to spouses of the President and Vice President is still raging. Many have argued that with the state of ordinary Ghanaians this move of payment will further worse the plight of Ghanaians especially at a time when taxes have been increased. Two Ghanaian NDC MPs have file suits at the Supreme Court to challenge this. The Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP also challenged this payment.
Captain Smart today, Friday, July 9, 2021 on ‘Onua Maakye’ has question why President Akufo-Addo would criticize something some time ago and later in the future agree to that same thing he had objected to. According to him Akufo-Addo spoke against this severally after the Kumepreko demonstration in an interview with Kwesi Pratt. The Kumepreko demonstration took place in 1995.
“Do you know what Akufo-Addo told Kwesi Pratt on that day? Ask Nana Addo of the issue he complained to Kwesi Prat after the Kumepreko issue? The second issue he spoke about in the interview was about the monies paid to the office of the First Lady. Kwesi Pratt is not dead. Kwesi is alive. Ask him. It was about monies advanced to the First Lady” Captain Smart explained.
Many have criticized the payment because the first and second ladies do not fall under Article 71 holders and as such do not qualify for the payments. However, the government feels this was a system that was practiced already and they only intend to put it on paper. Interesting days lie ahead of the nation.
