Afenyo Markin Gets “Emotional” As He Rebuts Claims Of Disrespecting Voltarians

The Deputy Majority leader and member of Parliament for the Efutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has indicated his unhappiness towards alleged claims that he has shown gross disrespect and insensitivity towards the people of the Volta region.

Honorable Afenyo Markin was on PM Express on Joynews yesterday, November 15, 2021, with host Evans Mensah to discuss the controversies surrounding the issue.

It would be recalled that few days back, Honorable Afenyo-Markin engaged the press after sitting and spoke about how sand winning has contributed to the ripple effects of the tidal waves in the Keta Municipality. He proceeded to show an image purporting to show activities of sand winning activities in the area and advised that it is stopped immediately.

This attracted the wrath of some minority members which almost resulted in scuffles had it not been the intervention of some other members who were present at the scene. Afenyo- Markin has since come under intense criticisms with some indicating that the timing of his remarks is a sign of gross disrespect and insensitivity towards the people of Keta. They further accused him of being a Voltarian but allows himself to be used against his own people.

Honorable Afenyo-Markin has refuted all these claims and indicated that he was only being realistic with the issues because he felt it would help bring a lasting solution to the problem. Visibly upset Afenyo-Markin reiterated that he was very disappointed with members of the minority for suggesting that he has no respect and is insensitive towards the people of Keta.

” It is quite unfortunate that anyone would suggest that I do not respect the people of Keta because that is where I come from. That is where my father comes from and I grew up in Chiame, a suburb of Keta. I lived there and that is where I started my education. I have built my house there and I visit from time to time. You can go and ask the member of Parliament for that constituency the kind of things I have being doing in the constituency” he reiterated among others.

He called on members of the minority to issue a public apology for their actions on the day he engaged the media in the corridors of Parliament.

The deputy majority leader also warned against the politicization of everything in the country.
