Political and and social activist, Bernard Morna has backed calls for the return of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The Member of Parliament for Klottey Korley, Doctor Zenator Agyemang Rawlings has urged the NDC to bring back her mother and former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings as the party goes into the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on UTV on Monday, a former Chairman of the People's National Convention (PNC) Bernar Morna said the suggestion is laudable and timely. He underscored the importance of the former first lady [Nana Konadu] who is the wife of the founder of the NDC Jerry John Rawlings, to the party.
In a related development, an NDC communicstor Fred Agbenyo who represented the NDC the UTV morning show insists Nana Konadu must follow the laid down procedures if she wish to return to the party.
He revealed that a member who joins the party after a voluntary exit becomes an ordinary member. He or she must rise through the ranks, starting from the branch to the national level.
Nonethelss, it is imperative that the NDC seriously consider call by Dr Zenator because the party stands to gain in the long run.
It is important to recognize the fact that Mrs Rawlings was not sacked from the party. She left the party. Therefore, one may argue she must follow the laid down rules and rejoin the party if is so minded. That will be a fair argument to make.
However, it must also be pointed out that there is nothing wrong with the leadership of the party reaching out to her the bid to rebuild the party. President Akufo-Addo was an ardent critic of late President Rawlings for very time. But when the need to build alliance for victory arised, Mr Akufo-Addo rose up to occasion and benefited politcally from his relationship with the late President.
Another reason why the NDC needs the Nana Konadu is the power of her experience mobilisation skills. She has seen it all. Her ability to mobilize women for the party is not in doubt. So the party stands to benefit greatly if she is brought back.
